Birthing Kits

Our North Carolina United Methodist Conference has requested each church bring BIRTHING KITS to the June annual conference. United Methodist Women, Church & Society and Missions are coordinating SUMC’s participation in this life-giving ministry. Groups or individuals in our church are encouraged to donate $8 for one BIRTHING KIT - a small but major health gift. Because the ingredients and assembly are so very specific, donations will allow us to purchase items in bulk with adult volunteers assembling kits May 18th. Please join us in the name of Christ as we share the love of Jesus and bring health and hope and joy into the spaces that would otherwise only contain tears of mourning and sounds of death.

Stop Hunger Now
Over 32,000 meals packed in about 3 hours!
SUMC sponsored a “Stop Hunger Now” meal packaging event at the Rotary Civic Center on Saturday, November 3, 2012.
Dec. 2, 2012: UPDATE!
Friends of Stop Hunger Now,
We are happy to report that we recently shipped out a container of meals containing those packaged by your group. The meals were part of container totaling 285,120 meals from our Kinston warehouse en-route to Nicaragua. These meals will be distributed to more than 11,000 children living in extreme poverty in 14 communities across Nicaragua. The Iglesia Evangélica Metodista de Nicaragua (IGEMEN) provides children with meals five days a week and additional support in the form of basic healthcare, school uniforms, and shoes. For more information, please visit their website at http://www.iglesiametodistanicaragua.com
Thank you for generously donating your time as a volunteer with Stop Hunger Now. As we enter into this season of goodwill, you can take pride knowing that your kindness will touch so many children in Nicaragua. We are sincerely grateful for your dedication and for sharing our vision of a world without hunger.
Chris,
Chris Singleton, Program Manager

IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR MISSION AND OUTREACH
From time to time, SUMC folks are asked to participate in gleaning, picking a farmer’s field to feed the poor in our area. Last year more than 20 gathered a pickup truck load of sweet corn. These are usually “last minute” opportunities. If you and/or your family would be willing to help, write “glean” on the attendance pads (Connection Cards) on Sunday morning. Our Manna group, cooperating with the Society of Saint Andrew, will let you know when the occasion arises. Thank you. For additional information, call Jim Brewster at 910.478.9727.

“THE BIG TENT - - - THE BIG HEART”
A Celebration of Missions at Swansboro United Methodist Church
October 2, 2011 offered an opportunity for our worshiping congregations to see, learn and celebrate the diversity of mission services SUMC provides, in the name of Christ, to those in need.
ACTION FOR MISSION: SUMC serves the world in more ways than most imagine. We are literally aiding those in need next door, around our area, out into the world…from church school classes, to United Methodist Men, Women, children, youth and adults…mission committees. It’s remarkable how many in the church are SERVING THE WORLD.
Here are some photos from the Mission Tent event:
