International Missions Information Night
Our Jamaica and Haiti Mission Teams presented their experiences and mission work to the congregation at the January 20th International Missions Information Night. Angie and Jimmie Bean from the Jamaica Mission (see below) and Lynn Rouse, Rachel Moser, Deanna Scroggs, & Adele Hyla-Brewster from the Haiti Mission, provided details of their November ’09 trips to include photos, videos, artifacts, and personal testimonies. We are indeed fortunate to have such missionaries among us so willing to “go and be the Church.”

Jamaica
In February 2008, three of our church members visited Jamaica to spread God's word and assist in church projects. The primary work project was to build forms, lay re-bar, set conduit and pour concrete for a roof on the Methodist church's fellowship hall. Hurricane damage had left half the hall unusable, especially the bathrooms. Four local workmen directed the project and all work was done 'by hand' including mixing and transport of the concrete. In addition, songs and prayers were shared with the 50 local children at lunches held at the church and also for 400 in an assembly at the local elementary school. Following Sunday worship leadership, the team participated in a regional fund raising entertainment event led by the Methodist Men raising funds for the home for children. Each evening, local children would join the team at the retreat center for fun and games, reading, discussions and lots of love. Despite the substantial poverty, the local people exhibited a sense of peace and joy that was contagious and "passes understanding'. We received far more than we had given...thanks be to God! A special thanks to Jimmie Bean, Angie Bean and Dave Johnson who gave their time, hardwork, love and God's word to the Jamaican people. |

Panama
Panama
Visiting Panama was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. As my first international mission trip, I wasn't sure what to expect. The people of Panama taught me many life lessons, they welcomed us as family in the body of Christ. It was amazing to realize that no matter where I go, I will always have a family, God's love reaches places I didn't even know existed. The simpleness of their lives reflected their deep faith. They were content in Christ alone. I am so thankful for the opportunity to visit and become friends with the people of Jacu, Panama. ~ J. Scholl
