Son Set Ministries / The Refuge
The Refuge, located in Ayden NC, is now a sanctioned (approved) outreach mission of SUMC. The Refuge is about: summer camps, retreats, prison ministry, mission teams, youth-at-risk programs, inner city outreach, Christian music programs, and “Serving Christ…Bringing Hope.” Our Mission & Outreach will be looking to organize 3 or 4 weekend work teams and one five-day work team once each year to participate in the Summer Build Program. While at the Refuge working, teams will also participate in nightly praise and devotion. We would like to see UMYF, UMM, and UMW take advantage of The Refuge for weekend retreats, summer camps, and work teams. To volunteer or to learn more, contact Chip Olmstead or Team Leader, John Gott. Also, visit The Refuge website for lots of information, pictures, and newsletters. Read how 'Son Set Ministries / The Refuge' came about in their first newsletter, Volume 1, Issue 1 / October 1, 2006; read it to the end.

May 1, 2010 was another day of work at the Refuge. About 30 people from SUMC attended, worked, and worshipped.
Construction was started on the Pavilion on Saturday, April 17, 2010. This structure will greatly increase the ministries' capabilities of providing shelter, a full-service commercial kitchen, and restrooms complete with showers. Fund-raising for the project is 65% complete.

Winter Work Days
The Refuge had another winter work day on Saturday, March 13th. Five workers from SUMC plus about 25 from other churches began or continued several projects including insulating, sheet-rocking, closing in the rear wall and painting on the Moses House and painting the storage barn. They also did some trail clearing and worked on a new bridge on the trails. Good fellowship, great lunch (Thanks Loretta) and no rain! It was a fun day!
The next work day, May 1st, should be a big day for SUMC as the ASP team comes to The Refuge along with the Monday Morning Men's Bible Study group, the Logos Sunday School Class and any others that might want to participate. There will be a picnic, games, and a project or two to work on. Contact Chip Olmstead at 910.459.9038 to join us.
