A Word from Bishop Hope Morgan Ward – Please Respond
The devastation in The Philippines is overwhelming. As I speak with colleague United Methodist Bishops who serve in Philippines and hear their stories, I assure them of the support and generosity of United Methodist people.
Thank you for your prayers and your gifts through International Disaster Response, Advance #982450 (and click on Typhoon Haiyan in the sub-designation area) for this great emergency.
You are wonderfully generous. Thank you for inviting and receiving offerings, for pointing people to the UMCOR website, and for prayers for the people of The Philippines.
On your offering envelop or check, please designate: Typhoon Response, International (#982450)
100% of your offering will go to for Typhoon Haiyan response and relief.
The Second Sunday Food Collections continue to be an important SUMC mission effort. We need nutritious food donations, easy to open, light & small enough to fit in the children’s backpacks. Some examples are Peanut Butter (plastic jars), small boxes of Raisins, 1 Cup servings Mott’s Apple Sauce, Kraft Easy Mac (macaroni/cheese), packets Quaker Instant Grits or Quaker Oatmeal, Juice boxes (Apple and Eve), Snack Pack Puddings, Lance Style Crackers (whole Grain). The staff at the school shares its appreciation for our faithful mission effort and reminds us that, when children are well-fed, they’re happier, healthier and better students. These collections are coordinated by Manna, the hunger awareness activities of our Church and Society committee. “Manna” is also seeking volunteers for our increasingly busy mission work. Call Susan Del Grande (910.326.3316) or Jim Brewster (910.478.9727).
We are also collecting games and educational items, DVDs and tapes that can be used in Haiti to help the kids learn English..leave in the Haiti Kids box by the office.
We are collecting back packs and school supplies for local school donations.
Make a place in your life for God’s missions. There is something for everyone to do! Contact the Sewing Sisters- Lynn Rouse at 910.326.4095, UMW-Rosemary Whaley at 252.354.3991 or SUMC Haiti Mission-Lisa Potts at 910.340.6607 for more information.
